The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Play Video
Fairfield Citizen film critic Susan Granger reviews the new movie, “The Divergent Series: Allegiant.” Joining the “Harry Potter,” “Twilight” and “Hunger Games,” this adaptation of Veronica Roth’s popular Young Adult series divides its conclusion into two separate movies. In the beginning of this installment, a voice-over explains, “We designed your city as an experiment.” So Chicago’s citizens were rigidly divided into behavioral factions, like Amity, Abnegation, Candor, Erudite and Dauntless. After a revolution that abolished these divisions, militant Evelyn (Naomi Watts) takes charge, opposed by Johanna (Octavia Spencer), whose former Amity cohorts become known as Allegiant. Beatrice “Tris” Prior (Shailene Woodley), accompanied by her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort), lover Four (Theo James), friend Christina (Zoe Kravitz) and ever-duplicitous Peter (Miles Teller), scales the massive concrete wall that surrounds Chicago to explore the post-apocalyptic world outside.

With understanding comes healing, and both embark on the journey of love that makes them stronger together and allows Walt to become the father he needs to be. The Do-Over-2016

In 2015, we got ridiculous according to Netflix with the release of The Ridiculous 6 and while it apparently shattered movie records on the service, it certainly didn’t shatter the critics record, at least not for being good. The first Sandler movie in a deal spanning several years, scored a measly 18 on Metacritics which is fairly low, even for a Sandler movie. While the trailer on YouTube is already being crucified on YouTube with negative comments and ratings we’re holding our judgement until we’ve seen the movie. That means that The Do-Over can surely do better right?

Keanu-2016

Play Video
The film focuses on underachieving stoner Rel (Peele) and his best friend/cousin Clarence (Key), a suburban square whose very presence riffs on racial preconceptions. (Warner Bros.' New Line made "Keanu" and will release it in theaters April 29.) The title is a reference to, yes, that Keanu, only this time he's a cat that saves Rel by showing up at his door after the stoner underwent a bad breakup--but whose disappearance sends him and Clarence on a crime-riddled spin through some of L.A.'s gang underworld. It's that kind of movie.

Alice Through the Looking Glass-2016

For a number of reasons, the story of Alice in Wonderland has always had a strong connection to drugs. And yet, it’s weird to see it manifest so overtly in the latest look at the Disney sequel, Alice Through The Looking Glass.

Hardcore Henry

Play Video
In the first-person action film Hardcore Henry, injury and violence, even insult, are the means to an uncertain end. Throughout, the titular Henry is called a “pussy” several times, usually in the midst of situations that range from the deceptively mild to the ostentatiously wild, from a bus ride down a Moscow street to a conversation with a coke-snorting playboy inside a bordello, where he's uncertain if the persons to every side of him are friends or foes.
